The Apple Trees

Chapter 1: The Invitation

The year was 2125, and the Earth was no longer divided by wars, borders, or hunger. Two nations had risen as models of perfection, each in their own way, and the rest of the world watched them with wonder.

In Auroria, there were no kings, no presidents, not even parliaments. The people lived in harmony with machines that managed every detail of life, from repairing roads before cracks appeared, to diagnosing illnesses before symptoms emerged. Robots tended farms, algorithms resolved disputes, and citizens spent their lives in creativity, study, and exploration. No one ruled, because the system itself was the ruler.

Across the ocean stood Novaterra, a land of governance perfected. Here, leaders still existed—ministers, councilors, and representatives—but their every move was monitored by an incorruptible intelligence called The Glass Net. Every law, every budget, every decision was visible to all citizens in real time. Corruption was impossible, mismanagement unthinkable. The government was not a cage, but a guiding hand, shaping progress while ensuring freedom.

And yet, a question lingered. Which model was truly the future of humanity? A world without leaders, or a world with the best possible leaders?

To answer this, a summit was announced: The Great Comparison, a global forum where Auroria and Novaterra would present their visions, side by side, before billions of viewers.

In Auroria, the system chose Kai, a curious young architect who often asked questions others avoided: Do we still have a voice, or do we only echo what the machines decide?

In Novaterra, the Council nominated Lira, a political thinker known for her eloquence and belief in guided freedom: People need direction, not domination, and not abandonment either.

One morning, Kai awoke to find a message projected on the glass wall of his home:

You have been chosen as Auroria's voice. The summit awaits.

At the same hour, Lira stood before Novaterra's council as the head minister placed a hand on her shoulder:

“The world will listen to you. Show them that governance, perfected, is not a chain but a gift.”

The stage was set. Two perfect nations, two young voices, one great question.

The Great Comparison Begins

The great hall shimmered with light as millions watched across the world. From floating cities above the oceans to green arcology towers in the deserts, every screen was tuned to the event: The Great Comparison.

Two flags, though neither nation truly needed them, hung side by side. One bore the glowing circle of Auroria, symbolizing unity without rulers. The other carried the woven star of Novaterra, representing people and leaders bound together in shared purpose.

The ceremony began with the singing of anthems.

Auroria's anthem was not sung by a single voice, but by thousands of citizens in perfect harmony, their tones guided by AI to blend seamlessly. The lyrics spoke of a people without masters, of roads and rivers cared for by the hands of machines, of freedom not promised by leaders but guaranteed by design.

Novaterra's anthem followed, sung by a human choir, their voices rich and imperfect but full of emotion. The song praised wisdom, accountability, and the strength of guidance. It spoke of leaders chosen not to rule but to serve, and of the trust between people and government.

When the last notes faded, silence filled the hall, not heavy, but expectant.

At the center stage stood two figures. Kai, from Auroria, young and thoughtful, chosen not by votes or councils but by the impartial algorithms of his homeland. Across from him stood Lira, from Novaterra, poised and eloquent, chosen by her council for her gift of persuasion.

A holographic figure flickered into existence between them—the Mediator AI, shaped as a tall, luminous silhouette. Its voice was calm and resonant, echoing across the hall.

“Citizens of Earth, welcome. Today we begin the Great Comparison. Before us stand the voices of two nations, each perfect in its own way. They will debate, question, and present their truths. From this exchange, perhaps a greater truth will emerge.”

Kai's eyes scanned the hall, wondering if the people of Novaterra truly trusted leaders as much as they claimed. Lira glanced at him, equally curious if Auroria's citizens felt free, or only obedient to the silent hand of machines.

The Mediator raised its hand.

“We begin with the first question: What is the foundation of a perfect society?”

The cameras zoomed in. The debate was about to start.

What Happens Next?

Two perfect nations. Two different paths.

Auroria: A land without leaders, where machines guide every choice.

Novaterra: A nation of leaders watched by incorruptible truth.

At the Great Comparison, their champions will meet—Kai of Auroria and Lira of Novaterra.

The great hall falls silent. The Mediator AI raises its glowing hand, and the first question echoes:

“What is the foundation of a perfect society?”

Kai's eyes gleam with the certainty of a world without rulers. Lira's voice trembles with the passion of leaders who serve, not dominate.

The debate has begun, and the future of humanity listens.

But which vision would you trust?

A life without rulers, or a life with the best rulers?

The choice is yours. Choose the path, and shape the story.
