Exclusion of Liability - Disclaimer

Liability for Content

All content on our website has been created with the utmost care and to the best of our knowledge. However, we cannot accept any liability for the accuracy, completeness and topicality of the content. As a service provider, we are responsible for our own content on these pages. We are not obliged, however, to monitor transmitted or stored third-party information or to actively investigate circumstances that indicate illegal activity. Obligations to remove or block the use of information in accordance with general legislation remain unaffected by this.

However, liability in this respect is only possible from the time we become aware of a specific infringement. If we become aware of the above-mentioned infringements, we will remove this content immediately.

Limitation of Liability for External Links

Our website contains links to external third-party websites. We have no influence on the content of these directly or indirectly linked websites. Therefore, we cannot accept any liability for the accuracy of the content of the external links. The respective providers or operators (authors) of the pages are responsible for the content of the external links.

The external links were checked for possible legal violations at the time the links were created and were free of illegal content at the time the links were created. It is not possible to constantly check the content of external links without concrete evidence of an infringement. In the case of direct or indirect links to third-party websites that lie outside our area of responsibility, a liability obligation would only exist if we were aware of the content and it would be technically possible and reasonable for us to prevent use in the event of illegal content.

This disclaimer also applies to links and references set by commentators within our own website. For illegal, incorrect or incomplete contents and in particular for damages resulting from the use or non-use of such information, only the service providers of the pages to which reference is made are liable, not those who merely refer to the respective publications via links.

If we become aware of any legal infringements, we will remove the external links immediately.

Terms of Use

Last updated: June 2026

By creating an account on Typewryter, you agree to these Terms of Use. Please read them carefully.

1. The Platform

Typewryter is a serial storytelling platform operated by Dr. Yuno Rolfes at typewryter.online. It allows writers to publish stories chapter by chapter and readers to follow, react, comment, vote, and predict what happens next.

2. Account Registration

  • You must be at least 16 years old or have parental/guardian consent to create an account.
  • You must provide a valid email address and a secure password.
  • You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure.
  • One person may hold one account. Duplicate accounts may be removed.
  • Display names may not impersonate real people or other users.

3. Reader Access

  • Guests may freely read Chapter 1 of any published story.
  • Registered readers automatically receive a 30-day premium trial from account creation. During the trial all premium chapters are accessible.
  • After the trial expires, premium chapters (Chapter 2 and onward) require an active $1 / month subscription, an administrator-granted premium status, or any other access level the platform may introduce.
  • Subscriptions are processed by Stripe and may be cancelled at any time. Access remains until the end of the paid period.

4. Writer Obligations

  • You must own or hold the rights to all content you publish.
  • You must accurately rate every chapter using the platform’s content rating system (GA, PG, 16+, 18+).
  • You may not publish content that violates these terms, the Community Guidelines, or applicable German or EU law.
  • Writers may hide or delete comments on their own stories. Moderators and administrators may moderate any content according to platform policy.
  • Writers may publish under a pen name.

5. Intellectual Property

Writers retain full copyright over their stories. By publishing on Typewryter you grant Typewryter a non-exclusive licence to display, distribute, and promote the content on the platform. This licence ends when the writer removes the content.

6. Mature Content

Writers may publish content rated 16+ or 18+ subject to the Content Rating Policy. Readers must confirm their eligibility before accessing mature content. Typewryter reserves the right to remove, re-rate, or restrict any content at its discretion. Explicit pornographic content may be subject to further restriction or removal where reliable age verification under German youth-protection law cannot be implemented.

7. Comments, Reactions, and Predictions

Readers may post comments, predictions, and reactions on chapters they are entitled to read. Comments must comply with the Community Guidelines. Comments may be hidden or removed by the writer of the chapter, by a moderator, or by an administrator. Moderation actions are logged for accountability.

8. Account Termination

Typewryter may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or the Community Guidelines. Users may delete their own account at any time by contacting info@typewryter.online. Where legal retention is required, records may be anonymised or retained only as required by law.

9. Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability

Typewryter provides the platform “as is”. We are not liable for content submitted by writers or the actions of users. To the extent permitted by applicable law, our liability is limited to the amount paid by you to Typewryter in the three months prior to the claim.

10. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany. Place of jurisdiction is Vlotho, Germany, to the extent permitted by applicable law.

11. Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the platform. Continued use after notice constitutes acceptance.

Community Guidelines

Last updated: June 2026

Typewryter is built on the relationship between writers and readers. These guidelines protect that relationship and keep this a space worth coming to.

Our Principles

  • Respect writers. Their stories are their creative work. Criticism is welcome; harassment is not.
  • Respect readers. Everyone deserves to engage without being attacked, degraded, or silenced.
  • Be honest. Do not impersonate other people or misrepresent yourself.
  • Mind your ratings. Writers must label content accurately. Readers must respect the access gates.

What Is Allowed

  • Honest reactions to chapters - positive or critical.
  • Predictions about what will happen next in a story.
  • Thoughtful critique of writing style, plot, or characters.
  • All fiction genres, including mature, dark, and difficult themes - when properly rated.
  • Romance and adult content with appropriate content rating and platform review.
  • Political, religious, and controversial themes in a literary context.

What Is Strictly Prohibited

  • Personal attacks, harassment, threats, or intimidation of writers or other readers.
  • Hate speech based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
  • Any sexual content involving minors or characters written, described, or presented as under 18 years of age.
  • Non-consensual sexual content written for arousal or presented positively.
  • Sexual content about real, identifiable individuals without their demonstrable consent.
  • Revenge pornography or intimate imagery of real people.
  • Content designed to harass, threaten, or intimidate a specific real person.
  • Incest presented in an erotic or romanticised manner.
  • Detailed instructions for real-world violence, terrorism, or illegal activity disguised as fiction.
  • Spam, advertising, or off-topic promotion in comments.
  • Any content that is illegal under German or EU law.

Enforcement

Violations may result in content removal, account suspension, or permanent ban. Serious violations - including any content involving minors - will be reported to the appropriate authorities without notice.

To report a violation: report@typewryter.online

Age and Youth Protection

Typewryter takes youth protection seriously, in accordance with the German Youth Protection Act (JuSchG) and the State Treaty on the Protection of Minors in the Media (JMStV). Explicit adult (18+) content is reviewed by administrators before publication. Writers who publish 18+ content without appropriate labelling will have that content removed and their account reviewed.

Content Rating Policy

Last updated: June 2026

Every story and chapter on Typewryter carries a content rating. Writers are responsible for rating their own content accurately. Administrators may re-rate or remove incorrectly rated content.

RatingLabelWhat it meansGate required?
GA General Audience Suitable for all readers. No mature themes, no explicit content, no violence. No
PG Parental Guidance Mild romantic or emotional themes. Light conflict. Parental guidance suggested for readers under 16. No
16+ Mature Themes Strong romantic themes, implied (non-explicit) sexual content, mature emotional content. Yes - one confirmation
18+ Adult Content Explicit sexual scenes or heavy adult themes. Reviewed by administrators before publication. Yes - two confirmations

Rating Rules for Writers

  • Rate every chapter individually, not just the overall series. A generally rated series may include a single 16+ chapter.
  • When in doubt, rate higher. Under-rating is a policy violation; over-rating is not.
  • If you write characters in a sexual context, they must be clearly adults (18+). Characters of ambiguous age are treated as minors.
  • 18+ chapters require administrator review before they become visible to readers. Allow 24–48 hours.

Reader Access Gates

Before accessing 16+ or 18+ content, readers must confirm:

  • For 16+: that they are 16 or older (or have parental permission) and understand the content is mature.
  • For 18+: that they are 18 or older, legally permitted to access adult content in their location, and that they choose to continue. Two separate confirmations are required.

These confirmations use browser sessionStorage only - no data is sent to our servers. The confirmation expires when you close your browser.

Mature Content on the Homepage

16+ and 18+ stories are not displayed on the public homepage by default. They appear in their respective categories and in search results only for readers who have opted in to mature content in their account settings.

Note on German Youth Protection Law

Germany’s youth media protection laws (JuSchG / JMStV) require stronger safeguards for content that could harm minors. A simple confirmation checkbox does not constitute reliable age verification under German law for pornographic content. Typewryter may restrict or remove explicit 18+ content where proper age verification cannot be guaranteed. Writers who require a dedicated adult-content platform should seek specialised legal advice.

Cookie Settings

Manage your consent preferences at any time.

Strictly Necessary Cookies

Required for login, session security, and access control. These cannot be disabled - the platform cannot function without them.

  • Authentication session cookie (keeps you logged in)
  • CSRF protection cookie (protects form submissions)
  • Chapter access control (remembers subscription status for gated content)
  • Cookie consent preference (stores whether you accepted or rejected analytics)

Analytics Cookies (Google Analytics)

Help us understand how readers use the platform. IP anonymised. Not used for advertising. Loaded only after your explicit consent.

What We Do Not Use

  • No Facebook Pixel, TikTok Pixel, or other advertising trackers.
  • No embedded social media feeds or third-party comment systems.
  • No remarketing or ad-targeting cookies.
  • No third-party form services that set cookies.
